In May 2025, she will be joining CVS Health as Chief Medical Officer, bringing a lifelong commitment to making great health and compassionate care more accessible to all. Most recently, she served as President and Chief Physician Executive at Press Ganey, where her work centered on improving the experience of care across the U.S. healthcare system—for patients, providers, and the people who support them. Prior to that, she spent nearly a decade at Providence, where she served as President and Chief Clinical Officer. In that role, she helped lead clinical strategy and operations for a $25 billion health system encompassing 52 hospitals, over 1,000 clinics, and more than 120,000 caregivers. Notably, she led the system’s response to the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the United States in January 2020. Earlier in her career, Dr. Compton-Phillips spent 22 years at Kaiser Permanente, beginning as a front-line internist and eventually becoming Chief Quality Officer. Throughout, her focus has been on improving health outcomes and delivering better care at scale. Along the way, she has brought her voice to national conversations—serving as a CNN Medical Analyst, speaking on stages across the country, and helping demystify healthcare innovation in a way that’s both evidence-based and accessible. She also played a key role in advancing digital transformation within Providence, scaling the use of telehealth, data analytics, and AI solutions. Dr. Compton-Phillips has served on several boards, including HIMSS, the Institute for Systems Biology, Tegria, and Wellcare. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and is board certified in internal medicine.
