"Smart and articulate ... has also shown thought leadership in the industry" (American Banker) As Head of the Office of the CTO, Andres has led a full update of Citi's Technology Strategy and is now driving the modernization of the bank's entire tech estate. He leverages his experience on the front lines of digital innovation to draw the firm’s path forward on emerging technologies and to interface with regulators and policy makers around the world on Open Banking, DLT and digital assets, AI/ML, Quantum and other emerging domains. Andres joined Citi from an international Fintech start-up and has since served in a variety of digital product and strategy roles in Citi Latin America first, then in Citi's U.S. consumer businesses, and now globally for the entire firm. Previously, Andres was a co-founder of Citi FinTech, a business unit created to spearhead Citi's transformation into a mobile-centric "Bank of Tomorrow". As Global Head of Emerging Platforms and Services for Citi's consumer businesses, he assembled Citi’s first Open Banking team. As Citi's first global head of mobile banking, he invented Citi Mobile Snapshot, a breakthrough no-password access feature hailed by Infosecurity Magazine as “one giant leap for online banking.” In use by millions of customers today, it has been patented by Citi in the US, Mexico, Australia, China, Hong Kong and Singapore. In close partnership with Apple, Andres also turned Citi into the world's first bank with an Apple Watch app when the device was launched. Before becoming a banker, Andres was a foreign correspondent and international news executive. He had tea with mass-murderer military dictators; was driven, blindfolded and at gunpoint, around the capital of Paraguay after midnight; was arrested in Tierra del Fuego on suspicion of being a British spy; and raced in a car at 120 mph along the edge of a minefield in Croatia. He finds most days in banking very manageable. - - - - Digital visionary with multinational leadership experience on three continents and a bare-knuckle execution approach.
