Anupam Goswami

Anupam started working in the sports industry in 2013 when he joined STAR SPORTS in 2013. He has led Star Sports’ programming initiatives in Kabaddi (Pro Kabaddi League), Hockey (Hockey India League), and regional leagues in Football. In keeping with Star’s mission to dramatically augment public consumption of sports in India, Anupam’s line of sight in these assignments was to significantly broaden the scope of engagement and relevance that these sports would offer to hard core fans as well as general sports enthusiasts, particularly the gen-next sports fan. Anupam has worked with the world’s foremost sports broadcast institutions and cutting-edge sports technology firms in this role. In 2015, Anupam also assumed charge of Pro Kabaddi as League Commissioner and the top executive of Mashal Sports Pvt. Ltd., the corporate entity that conducts the league. Pro Kabaddi is a unique initiative across the world of sport, where a traditional grassroots game has been transformed into a modern glamourous sport around a complex and vibrant sports business ecosystem of a modern sports league; with corporate-backed franchises and a powerful broadcaster full of ambition and commitment to the sport. In this role, Anupam works with relevant national and international kabaddi federations, continental regulators, franchise-owners, grassroots sports-developers, diverse authorities at the federal and regional level, as well as entrepreneurs developing the next-generation technology-driven engagement for sport. In this role, Anupam has successfully exercised oversight of six Seasons of Pro Kabaddi during 2015 - 2020, itself a unique achievement in Indian sports-scape. Prior to his career in sports, Anupam was a long serving journalist and media executive during 1987 - 2010. He worked as a journalist in Times of India, Sunday Mail, Down to Earth, and Business India. As a media professional Anupam has rose to editorial and corporate leadership roles in news-magazines and news-dailies, in India and overseas. In between his media and sports Anupam has also served as President – Corporate Development at the Reliance Group. Anupam’s education is from Delhi. He passed out of Modern School and went on to study history at the graduate and postgraduate levels from Hindu College and University of Delhi. He is passionately fond of the Hindustani Classical and the Blues’ genres in music. He is also an ardent weekend cricketer.
