View LinkedIn ProfileExecutive Overview
I guide multi-billion dollar, multinational companies through pivotal transformations and impacts created by emerging technologies and risks, including cybersecurity, data privacy and artificial intelligence (AI). I am a world-recognized leader in AI governance and privacy, advising the President and the White House on AI as a former member of the National AI Advisory Committee (NAIAC), and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) as a member of the Board of Directors and the inaugural AI Governance Advisory Board. As the Chief Privacy & Trust Officer and Assistant General Counsel of General Motors, I lead the ongoing development of GM’s privacy policies, procedures, and practices, and provide legal counsel and guidance on a wide range of privacy and data protection matters, including data governance, product issues, incident response, and regulatory compliance, in order to drive, partner, communicate, and help develop innovative approaches to complex privacy and data protection issues. At IBM, I operationalized IBM's AI Ethics Board, and led critical business and legal initiatives across the company. As Secretary to IBM's Board of Directors, I modernized the company's off-season shareholder engagement strategy, led numerous governance initiatives, and supported the selection, recruitment and on-boarding of 7 new directors (half of the IBM Board). As Assistant General Counsel, I advised senior IBM executives and the Board throughout the selection, due diligence and acquisition of the then-largest software acquisition in history, IBM's $34B acquisition of Red Hat.
