Every aspect of human resources falls under a single goal for me: Help people by inspiring them to come to work each day at a purpose-driven company. That’s the draw for me as Chief Human Resources Officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ). We’re a non-profit insurer, and we tie our health insurance-related products and services with community involvement to carry out our mission to keep Arizonans healthier. None of this is possible without engaged, happy employees. How do I make sure that the organization serves all our staff and makes BCBSAZ a top place to come to in the state to do meaningful work? It starts with: • Strong relationships: I built my career on bringing people together to work toward—and be rewarded for achieving—a common good. • Strategic alignment: Human resources ties into every department. My role is to support the overall vision and empower staff to accomplish their objectives. • Culture and values: I oversee three areas that are especially important to me: Diversity, equity and inclusion. We’re better as an organization when we have different experiences, backgrounds and ideas—and it’s the right thing to do. I’ve always been a people person. I enjoy meeting new people and exploring new places and cultures. I keep the same mindset when I travel as I have in the office: Wherever you go, if you expect to find great people, you’ll find greatness. Specialties include: organizational development | strategic leadership | team building
