Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen

I am the CEO of the Novo Nordisk Foundation, a leading philanthropic organization that supports scientific and social causes across the globe. With over 30 years of experience in research and development of innovative medicines for chronic diseases at Novo Nordisk, in particular the GLP-1 compounds that today are present in rapidly growing diabetes and obesity products worldwide, I have a deep understanding of the life sciences and biotechnology sector and its potential to improve human and planetary health. In my current role, I lead the implementation of an ambitious strategy towards 2030, which aims to address some of the most pressing global challenges, such as chronic diseases, pandemics, AMR, climate change and food security. I oversee the foundation's philanthropic grant-giving and investments in areas such as regenerative medicine, cardiometabolic and infectious diseases, sustainable agri-food systems, and climate mitigation technologies. I also foster a vibrant and competitive life science ecosystem by supporting education and research throughout the value chain. My mission is to create impact within and beyond human health and to help make our society and planet more sustainable and resilient.
