(1) Abstraction and scalability when developing applications - breaking down applications in units allows developers to specialise in a specific craft, this increases speed to market of new products because full-stack developer are extremely rare. Another advantage is that applications can be easily scaled up - just scale up the abstraction layer that has the bottleneck. (2) Make quality measurable with the help of automated testing - “you can’t manage what you can’t measure“. The complexity of applications grows factorially because each feature added to an application increases the permutations by adding a factor. Automated testing and measuring quality is indispensable for growing your applications. Well defined performance indicators give insights in bottlenecks and can provide concrete improvement strategies. (3) Guaranteeing speed to market with the help of a continuous delivery pipeline and controlled release management - the best testing ground for your applications where customers can use it. When a feature is complete, you want it to return on investment as soon as possible. An automated production pipeline together with good versioning and release management allows this. (4) Be agile to change - change in requirements happens all the time, change in technologies happens all the time. A good team of developers is agile to these changes and each member can contribute in it’s own capacity if the development process is abstracted sufficiently. Systems for measuring quality allow for changes to be tested quickly, and a continuous delivery system allows for a quick release of the necessary change.
