Executive Overview
Pankaj K Verma is the Chief Sustainability Officer of Adani Green Energy Limited and Head of ESG at Adani New Industries Limited, leading sustainability, ESG governance, climate strategy, Business Excellence, and CSR for one of the world’s largest integrated renewable energy companies. His role spans AGEL’s utility-scale solar, wind, and hybrid portfolio, as well as ANIL’s fast-growing green industrial ecosystem covering solar PV and cell manufacturing, wind turbine manufacturing, and green hydrogen businesses.With more than 26 years of experience across environmental policy, ESG frameworks, climate risk management, and E&S due diligence, he brings deep expertise in applying global standards such as IFC E&S Performance Standards, The Equator Principles, and MDB safeguards. His work extends across power, steel, cement, ports, airports, roads & highways, mining, automobiles, tourism, SEZs, and other infrastructure and industrial sectors in India and emerging economies.At Adani, he leads enterprise-wide ESG strategy, Net Zero pathways, SBTi alignment, internal carbon pricing, supply-chain ESG assessments, climate risk modelling, and implementation of ISO 14001 systems. He oversees ESG disclosures including BRSR, GRI, SASB, CDP, TCFD, and TNFD, while driving ESG excellence and high-impact CSR interventions aligned with national development priorities. He works closely with senior management and Independent Directors of the AGEL Board Members on the ESG strategy and performance. Previously at IDFC and IDFC FIRST Bank, he conducted 250+ E&S assessments for infrastructure finance and played a key role in making IDFC the first Indian financial institution to adopt the Equator Principles, strengthening its leadership in responsible and sustainable finance for debt finance and equity finance businesses of IDFC and IDFC Private Equity. Pankaj serves in key industry and policy leadership roles, including Board Member, Global Alliance on Sustainable Energy; Member, BIS Environment & Ecology Division Council; Member, CII National Mission on Sustainability; and Member, CII Climate Change Council.His mission is to embed ESG excellence, climate resilience, responsible manufacturing, and sustainability-led value creation across AGEL’s renewable energy portfolio and ANIL’s green manufacturing ecosystem—supporting India’s clean energy transition and contributing to global climate and sustainability goals.
