As CEO of Vedanta’s Alumina Business at Lanjigarh, he has led one of the most remarkable growth stories in the aluminium sector. Under his leadership, the refinery’s capacity expanded from 2 MTPA to 5 MTPA, positioning Lanjigarh among the largest alumina producers outside China and advancing Vedanta’s vision to be a first-decile, low-cost global player. Through strategic cost optimization and value-chain integration, he steered a financial turnaround, delivering an 11x improvement in cash profit within three years. Vedanta Alumina business achieved record production volumes with 92% rail-based logistics, ensuring efficiency and lower emissions. A strong advocate of safety, digitalization, and people development, Mr. Bhattacharyya has embedded global best practices in tailings dam management and real-time digital monitoring. His people-first approach, including zero-based manpower planning, leadership development for over 200 employees, and 33% women representation in leadership, has fostered inclusion and agility. He has also championed Vedanta’s sustainability and community development agenda. Breakthrough initiatives such as red-mud utilization as soil nutrients, biomass co-firing, and large-scale water recharge projects are advancing the company’s net-zero roadmap.
