Mike Cory

As EVP and Chief Operating Officer of CSX, I am responsible for overseeing the railroad’s operations strategy and coordinating all aspects of the company’s Transportation, Mechanical and Engineering department performance. I joined CSX in September 2023 after a 39-year career with the Canadian National Railway (CN), where I contributed to establishing scheduled railroading as a transformative operating model for the rail industry. I started my railroad career in 1981 as a laborer in CN’s Mechanical Department and advanced through positions of increasing responsibility. After completing the company’s operations leadership development course, I served in a series of front-line supervisory roles before being named project manager for implementing a new operating system in Western Canada. I ascended to the position of EVP and COO at CN from 2016 to 2019, during which time I successfully managed rapid volume growth and oversaw the completion of 49 capital projects. After leaving the company in 2019, I consulted with a diverse range of firms on transportation and logistics issues before joining the CSX team. I am committed to promoting the spirit of collaboration at CSX and sharing the experiences and strategic insights I’ve learned over my railroading career to continue to improve safety and service performance to drive business growth.
