At Microsoft, I served as Technical Fellow and CTO of Azure AI, leading teams to industry-first human-parity breakthroughs in speech recognition, machine translation, conversational AI, and multimodal intelligence. I also partnered with OpenAI to launch Azure OpenAI Service, bringing frontier generative AI to enterprises globally with security and compliance at the core.I hold 170+ U.S. patents, have authored 120+ papers and two books (including the widely used Spoken Language Processing), and am an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, as well as a Fellow of IEEE and ACM.I’m committed to AI for Good: expanding accessibility (such as free captions in Zoom and in Microsoft products), supporting underserved languages, and helping preserve cultural heritage.
