About Ontario Power Generation
At Ontario Power Generation (OPG), our work is reshaping the world as we aim to power daily life with electricity within a single generation. As the largest clean power producer in the province, OPG runs one of North America’s most varied generating fleets. We are currently progressing several clean energy initiatives, such as Small Modular Reactors, low-carbon hydrogen, and energy storage, to help guide Ontario and the globe toward an electrified future, where more facets of life—from vehicles to homes and industries—run on clean electricity. In line with this goal, we are also working to achieve net-zero operations by 2040 and support a net-zero economy by 2050. We have already taken significant steps toward a sustainable future. In 2014, OPG used its final piece of coal to generate electricity, marking one of the largest single climate-related actions ever taken globally. Today, thanks to the commitment of over 9,500 employees, OPG supplies nearly half of the electricity that Ontario’s homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses depend on daily. We are dedicated to ensuring our power generation is dependable, safe, and environmentally responsible for Ontarians now and in the years ahead. In Ontario, our varied fleet consists of two nuclear plants, 66 hydroelectric stations, two thermal generating plants, one solar site, and four combined-cycle gas stations, managed by our subsidiary, Atura Power. We also own two additional nuclear stations in Ontario, which are leased long-term to Bruce Power L.P. In the United States, OPG owns and operates 85 hydroelectric stations across 18 states through our subsidiary, Eagle Creek Renewable Energy. Current efforts by OPG to prepare for our electric future include ongoing refurbishment and modernization of our hydro fleet, plus the refurbishment of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, which will provide another 30 years of clean, reliable, and low-cost power.
